FAM warns against exploiting Scorchers images.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has warned companies, organisations and individuals against using the Malawi National Women’s Football Team’s name, image and brand for commercial purposes without prior consent.
The warning comes after the Scorchers’ historic qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) final which has sparked widespread celebrations across the country.

In a statement issued Saturday, FAM expressed appreciation to supporters, well-wishers, corporate partners and other stakeholders for their support of the team following its outstanding campaign.
However, the football governing body said the use of the national team, its players and officials, including their names, images, logos and branding, for product endorsements, advertising, promotions, marketing campaigns or other commercial activities requires prior approval from FAM.
“Accordingly, all companies and individuals are urged to desist from using the team or its members to endorse or promote products, services, brands or commercial activities without prior authorisation,” reads part of the notice.
FAM said the measure is aimed at protecting the commercial and intellectual property rights of the Scorchers and their players while ensuring that the team’s success is celebrated in a coordinated manner.
The association, however, clarified that there are no restrictions on congratulatory messages, flyers, posters, social media graphics and other materials celebrating the team or its players, provided such content is non-commercial.
FAM has directed those seeking permission for commercial use of the Scorchers’ image, name or brand to submit their requests to its marketing department through marketing@fam.mw for consideration and approval before publication or circulation.
In an interview, FAM commercial and marketing manager Mayamiko Kafwamba said the association can take legal action against those that are exploiting Scorchers images for commercial purposes.
He said: “There are laws that govern advertisements and use of images.
“FAM can take legal action against those breaking the laws.
“Buit we believe it wont reach that.”
The Scorchers will face Cameroon in the Wafcon final this evening, with Malawi seeking to cap their landmark campaign by lifting their first continental title.
